FRANK HILL FAMILY HISTORY
I came here in 1926, and Frank and I were married in Payette on December 26, 1926. I came here in May, so romance took over, and I didn’t get any farther. When Frank’s Father passed away in 1939, his mother stayed out here a couple of years and wanted to sell the place. I think she wanted to keep it in the family, so she asked Frank several times if he wanted to buy the place. We talked it over and decided we would take it over. We paid $11,000 for the 80 acres. It is worth considerably more than that now. That was in 1983. Then, Frank bought this down by the river, below the bluff, a little later. In 1943, he put in the road and was able to farm down there. I don’t know where he got it from. I think maybe it was Chasman.
He began to rent out the place. He never would rent out the place until he got it paid for. George Nashitani was the last one to rent it during his lifetime. George had it about twenty years, or parts of it. Frank kept parts of it. It was 1970 when he retired, but he did keep five acres of onions. Gerrie would plow and plant them, and Frank would take care of them. He kept the five acres until he couldn’t take care of them. Of course, we had our cattle during some of those years. He got rid of those because the children were growing up and they weren’t on the farm, and it was just getting too much for him. So, he sold all of those, which I’m glad he did now. Glen still lives up there on the old place. The rest of the children live around on the place, except Roger. He is working at Max Jones’ garage in Ontario. They have a home there, but he still has his land, and we have him here.
From Mrs. Frank (Ruby) Hill
