There is the good possibility that this is the Harness & Saddle Shop that D.E. Johns bought in 1921 when they moved to Weiser from their farm. – MG
D.E. (David Edgar) Johns bought the harness shop in 1921 when they moved into town from their farm. In 1935 he became a member of the Weiser City Council and served until his death in 1948.
It was about 1944 when Dave and his son Earl (Lester Earl Johns) bought the Peacock Building and expanded their harness store into the Johns Leather Goods Company.

WELL KNOWN CITIZEN DIES
William Preston Harris of Weiser passed away after a long illness.
Weiser, Sept 18—W. P. Harris one of the best known citizens of this city and valley, passed away at his home here about 9 o’clock Thursday evening after a long illness, being afflicted with a goiter which finally proved fatal.
He was a harness maker who owned a business where he sold saddles, harness and other goods, located in the Matthews and Cobbs building on First street. He also owned a ranch across the river in Oregon.
The funeral will probably be held this afternoon under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge of which deceased was a member. He was a native of Iowa and was a little over 51 years of age. Relatives surviving are a wife and five children residing here, and a mother, five brothers and two sisters residing in Iowa.
Harris married Catherine Ellen Rouloff/Ruluf Dec 24, 1877 Mahaska County, Iowa

ARE NOW WHOLESALING
Harris & Dean Reaching out After New Territory For Weiser Goods
THEIR FLOOR SPACE DOUBLED
Weiser Wide-Awake Harness and Saddlers firm increase their stock and manufacturing facilities.
The harness and saddlery firm of Harris & Dean have taken an advanced step by the addition of a wholesale department to their business. To secure the room needed under the new departure they have secured the the store building north of them and connected it with the main building. This makes ample room in which to display their immense stock, and gives just twice the space for their work room. The wholesale business of the firm starts out briskly, a $500 order going to Cambridge Saturday. As all the labor needed in bringing all the raw material to the finished product is performed in their work room it follows that this is an enterprise that Weiser people should foster.
Mr. Harris has been in the harnessing and saddlery business for twenty-eight years, and understands the business from the smallest detail in the stock and workmanship to the trade of conditions which warrant their present important move. His conservative course since locating in Weiser has commended him to the fullest confidence of the people.
The success of Mr. Dean since becoming a member of the firm has been so marked that special mention is deserved. Three years ago he entered the employ of Mr. Harris beginning with no experience in that line but with a determination to master it thoroughly. By close application to work, an unflagging ambition to push his house to the front, and the observance of those steady habits which are essential to success, he soon found himself at the head of one of the most important institutions of the town. His successful use in the commercial world is a striking recommendation of his sterling qualities,
Thus the firm of Harris & Dean may continue to thrive and its business expand is the sincere wish of the SIGNAL, for it means another step toward commercial supremacy for Weiser.
