D.E. (David Edgar) Johns bought the harness shop in 1921 when they moved into town from their farm. In 1935 he became a member of the Weiser City Council and served until his death in 1948.
It was about 1944 when Dave and his son Earl (Lester Earl) Johns bought the Peacock Building and expanded their harness store into the Johns Leather Goods Company.

It is possible that the harness shop that D.E. (David Edgar) Johns purchased was Harris & Dean – Harness & Saddle Shop.

REMODELING STARTS
WEISER— Workmen have been remodeling two rooms in the Peacock Building recently purchased by D.E. Johns and son, for occupancy by their harness-saddle repair and manufacturing business and auto upholstering work. The two rooms will be converted into one by the removal of an intervening wall and hardwood floors will be laid and the walls redecorated. If the work can be completed by that time the new quarters will be occupied by Oct. 1.
Johns, established his business in the location, now occupied on East first Street, 21 years ago. Several years ago his son, Earl, became associated with him.

In 1972 Vernon and Joyce Talley, along with Vern’s brother Butch, purchased the glass, upholstery and canvas business from Vern’s employer, Earl Johns of Johns Leather Goods.
In 1976, when Talley Brothers dissolved, Vernon and Joyce opened Idaho Glass and Upholstery.
Butch continued to own Johns Leather Goods and later moved the business to Ontario.
