Yvonne (Whiting) Stephens
Yvonne Stephens, born September 16, 1927, passed away on April 14, 2017, in Boise, Idaho. Yvonne was a long-time resident of Weiser. She was born to Orlon (Jack) & Elverna Whiting and had three brothers: Orlon, Stanford, and Richard (Dick). She attended school in Weiser and then the University of Idaho, graduating in Music Performance and singing with the University of Idaho Vandaleers. In 1950, she married Donald L. Stephens, her love of sixty-six years. They resided in Weiser until May of the previous year when they relocated closer to family in Boise. Yvonne taught for twenty-five years in the Weiser School District. She was a talented musician, known for her beautiful voice, and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York with the TVCC choir.
Active in the Weiser Friends of Memorial Hospital and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Yvonne served in various capacities within her ward and stake, including ward & stake Relief Society president, ward organist, and ward choir director. Known for her kind heart, she rendered countless services discreetly. She enjoyed cooking, researching family history, counted cross-stitch, and knitting. Her warm smile uplifted those around her, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored, attending their events, playing games, and spending quality time with them.
Yvonne is survived by two sons, Dan Stephens (Glenda) and David Stephens (Leslie), one daughter, Toni Hendrickson (Ron), eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as Don’s brother, Richard, his wife, Betty, and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, her three brothers, and one grandson, Joshua Hendrickson.
The viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., both on Friday, April 21, 2017, at the Weiser LDS Church at 300 East Main Street. Memorials can be sent to the Friends of the Hospital, 645 E. 5th St., Weiser, ID 83672.
